POWERPLANT CFM LEAP-1A ENGINE
System Description
The primary parts of the powerplant are:
· Engine
· Engine mounts (forward and aft)
· Cowlings.
A. The engine is a high by-pass, dual rotor, axial-flow turbofan jet-engine. The primary functions of the engine are as follow:
· To give thrust to power the aircraft
· To supply mechanical power for the equipment / accessories
· To supply bleed air for aircraft functions.
B. Engine Mounts
The engine is attached to the aircraft pylon with two mount assemblies, one at the front and one at the rear of the engine. The mounts are installed below the pylon between the engine aft frame/fan case and pylon. The mount assemblies transmit loads from the engine to the aircraft structure. The two mounts are made to be fail-safe and have a tolerance to damage. The primary parts of the engine mounts are as follows:
· Engine Pylon
· Forward mount
· Forward mount fastener
· Aft mount
· Aft mount fastener
· Thrust link.
C. Cowlings
The cowls enclose the periphery of the engine and form the nacelle, which is the aerodynamic structure and gives protection around the engine. The cowling assembly has the following primary components:
· Air inlet cowls,
· Fan cowl doors
· Thrust reverser cowls
· Exhaust system
· Mounts .
