Japan Airlines is replacing the fleet with more fuel efficient aircrafts
Japan Airlines said in a statement that it will be "upgrading to fuel efficient aircraft and we are looking at the introduction of new small and medium-sized aircraft for short-haul fleet replacement." 
It said that no concrete decision has been taken so far. According to people familiar with the matter, Japan Airlines is looking to replace its old Boeing Company 737 short-haul fleet with more modern and fuel-efficient models.
The airline, which operates 45 of the 737 jets with an average lifespan of about 12.5 years, is currently deciding between the 737 MAX range and the Airbus SE's rival A320neo family, the people said, who did not wish to be identified. Said because the discussion is private.
People said the order could be anywhere between 30 to 50 of the narrow-body jets. People said that the deliberations are preliminary and no final decision has been taken.

Japan's tourism sector has been hit hardest in Asia as the country has been slow to reopen to foreigners. Prime Minister Fumio Kishida said late last month that some package-tour visitors would be allowed from June 10 under some strict conditions.
