ATR Aircraft Maintenance

C & L Aviation Group's ATR program is dedicated to providing comprehensive support to aircraft operators, owners, repair stations and brokers of ATR 42 and ATR 72. The new agreement strengthens GMA's global maintenance offering to operators of ATRs and regional turboprop aircraft in the Asia-Pacific region. For 7 years, GMA has been the most comprehensive and flexible maintenance package ATR has offered operators to help them operate flights and reduce maintenance costs.

Malaysia Airlines and ATR today announced the signing of a $2.7 million Global Maintenance Agreement (GMA) for spare parts and maintenance services for the new ATR 72 and 500 fleets of the two Malaysia Airlines subsidiary companies, Maswing and Firefly. Since many ATR operators tend to be smaller airlines, ATR has developed its General Maintenance Agreements (GMAs). In the recent years, leasing companies have become major buyers of ATR aircraft, with ATR offering complementary camo services as part of the GMA.

The component support agreement will enable ATR to provide cost-effective, reliable and responsive repair and overhaul support to operators of the regional turboprops ATR 72 and 42. Long-haul flights will be cut with fewer passenger transfers as ATR will replace 42 and 72 Airbus A320 and Boeing 737 aircraft, while maintaining key routes and key hubs, reducing the aircraft's operating costs. Every airline wants its aircraft to fly as often as possible with longer maintenance intervals, and ATR will ensure that their aircraft spend more time in the air and less time on the ground generating higher revenue potential.

In July 2004, ATR and Brazilian aircraft manufacturer Embraer announced a cooperation agreement with Aerochain Portal to improve customer service. Airlines operate each other's aircraft and the number of ATRs is an indicator of the size of the operator.

In February 2016 ATR signed a contract with Iran Air for a run of 20 ATR 72-600 aircraft with an option for 20 additional aircraft for after-sales services such as engine maintenance. Most configurations with passengers on board the ATR-72 use rear doors, but there are unusual configurations with passenger aircraft where the front doors are used for loading and unloading cargo. An early customer Finnair ordered its ATRs with front passenger doors, even though it used a jet bridge at Helsinki Airport, while another operator Air New Zealand uses a jet bridge with airport equipment. Most operators of ATRs equip their aircraft with propeller brakes (known as "hotel mode" or "stop propeller no.

Aviation Week 2020 forecasts for commercial aviation and maintenance suggest that the average annual workload of the ATR-72 before the crisis was almost 2,100 flight hours. Reducing air traffic means less work for MRO service providers, but it is an abrupt decline due to the diversity of ATRs in operation and the different geographical locations. Toulouse-based ATR, a regional aircraft manufacturer based in southern France, is a global leader in the market for 50-70-seat turboprop aircraft.

The Component Support Agreement is designed to provide ATRs customers with cost-effective and timely component support. The pandemic crisis has complicated the lives of ATRs engineers, but operators can count on continued support, said David Brigante, senior vice president of program and customer service at ATRs. RAS has access to ATR's parts, inventory, technical documentation and support for an annual fee, said Jörg Peters, Head of Regional Maintenance.

Maintenance and support needs for regional aircraft are expected to increase as the global fleet continues to grow and mature. ATR has strengthened its partnership with the Malaysian subsidiary of Skyways Technic to meet the needs of the Asia-Pacific support market.
